To whom do you look for approval?

Maybe you look to a parent, spouse, friends, extended family, boss and coworkers…

Think about it, seriously, whose opinion of you really matters to you?

Recently, the Philly sports scene has been abuzz about the great start of the Eagles’ rookie quarterback, Carson Wentz.

It doesn’t seem like anything fazes him.

When asked about how Carson doesn’t let the pressure get to him, receiver Jordan Matthews pointed to Carson’s faith in Jesus as the reason.

Carson has ‘AO1’ tattooed on his wrist as a reminder of the phrase, “Audience of One.”

Simply put, Carson plays to please God, and he knows that he already has God’s acceptance in Jesus.

So, he is relieved of all pressure to perform perfectly and can go out and enjoy playing football.

He’s not playing for his teammates, coaches or the Philly fans; he’s playing for Jesus.

Carson wants to win, but he doesn’t define or value himself by the outcome of his performance.

He knows that he is loved and accepted by God regardless of the outcome of his play on Sunday.

Beloved, we can so easily get trapped by the enemy in the quagmire of anxiety, fear and rejection when we look to people instead of to God for love and acceptance.

It’s imperative that we live for the pleasure of our Audience of One… our Loving, Heavenly Father.

His love and acceptance of us as His children is constant; it is not dependent on our performance.

It is dependent on what Jesus did for us on the cross.

Beloved, His love for us NEVER changes.

So, we can relax and simply rest and receive His love every day.

Then, as we go about life’s task, we acknowledge our total dependence on Jesus to do all things through us for His glory.

His love is more than enough for all that we need.

Let Him be your audience of One this week.

Blessings!
