Victory by Faith

Everyone loves to win, and it stinks to lose.

I am still enjoying the Eagles first Super Bowl victory!

We, as believers, all love to win the battle against sin and our flesh.

God is very specific about how we can experience victory.

It is by faith alone.

1 John 5:4 says:

“and this is the victory that conquers the world, even our faith.”

Faith in Jesus is the only way to have victory over temptation.

1 Corinthians 15:57 says:

“but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Christ has already won the victory for us through His work on the cross.

2 Corinthians 2:14 says:

“But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ.”

The Holy Spirit is always leading us to claim by faith the victory Christ has already won for us on the cross.

We trust in His victory.

2 Corinthians 5:17 says:

“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”

1 Corinthians 6:17 says:

“But the person who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.”

The new creation is the new man we are in Christ in our human spirit.

This is where Christ’s righteousness has been credited and where the Holy Spirit has taken up residence.

In Ephesians 1:19-20 2:6 Paul says:

“I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe Him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated Him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms. For He raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus.”

We are spiritually in Heaven and physically on earth at the same time.

How can we apply this?

Is Christ, who is at the Father’s right hand in heaven, struggling for victory or in a position of victory?

Jesus has already won.

Where does Ephesians 2:6 say we are spiritually?

We have been seated with Him in the heavenly realms, so that means we are to fight our battles from our position of the victory we already have in Christ, not struggle down here in our own strength for victory.

At the moment of our temptation, we count on the fact that we are dead to sin and alive to the resurrection life of Christ in us (Romans 6:1-11).

By faith, we are to deal with it from our position of victory in Christ and yield to the Holy Spirit’s power within, (Romans 6:12-14).

Keep your focus on Christ (Colossians 3:1-4) and bring your thoughts captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5).

I remember as a kid in elementary school playing king of the mountain at recess.

After a snow storm and the recess area was plowed, there would be big snow mounds.

The object of king of the mountain was to stay on top of the snow mound without getting pushed off by other kids.

As long as you were on top, you were king of the mountain.

You were being attacked by kids coming from every direction, and you usually didn’t last long.

Jesus is King of the mountain at the right hand of the Father in a position of victory over sin and all enemies, who do not even pose a threat to His position.

We were raised up with him and seated with him in a position of victory.

May we claim that victory by faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ!
