Moving Forward

Information technology is at the core of contemporary society.

That’s one reason why Charles Kao, Willard Boyle, and George Smith shared the Nobel Prize in physics.

Kao proved that information can be efficiently carried by light through glass fibers.

Today, more than 600 million miles of fiber-optic networks circle the globe and transmit most of the world’s television, telephone, and computer communications.

Boyle and Smith developed an electronic eye device that is now used in most digital cameras.

If your cell phone can take pictures and send them to your computer, these three men are the ones to thank!

In our contemporary society, those in the field of information technology and communications cannot afford to stand still, but have to be constantly moving forward in their field.

We as believers cannot afford to stand still or be in neutral in our spiritual life.

We must be moving forward spiritually or we will gradually be moving backward.

Hebrews 6:1 says, “Let us press on to maturity!”

If we don’t keep moving forward we are sitting ducks for the enemy’s attack and deceptive strategies.

2 Corinthians 11:3 says this: “But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds will be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ.”

How can we move forward spiritually?

2 Peter 3:18 says: “but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.”

We need to move forward by grace and intimate knowledge of Christ.

We do this by studying the written Word of God; the Bible, which gives us an intimate knowledge of the Living Word, Jesus Christ.

Colossians 2:6 says: “Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him.”

We received Him by grace through faith, so we move forward the same way.

God by His grace has given us the Holy Spirit to empower us and we trust Him to move us forward to spiritual maturity.

Remember the old telephone pole climber?

It was an art.

In order to climb, one must have a belt which goes around the pole and spiked shoes.

The secret was to lean back and depend on the belt so the spikes can dig in.

Depending on the belt was hard to learn and often one slid down the splintered pole because he wouldn’t depend on it.

In the Christian life God wants us to climb by depending on the Holy Spirit.

When we are hurt by splinters, we should recognize that they are encouragements to depend on Him more and more.

The more we do, the more we will be moving forward spiritually.
