In Matthew 17, we see what is called the Transfiguration.
We read this in vs. 2:
“As the men watched, Jesus’ appearance was transformed so that his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as light.”
Jesus was transfigured before the eyes of Peter, James, and John by appearing before them in His post-resurrection body; the body He would have at His Second Coming.
As they were looking, Moses and Elijah suddenly appeared and began talking with Jesus.
In verses 5-8 we read this:
“But even as he spoke, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, ‘This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy. Listen to him.’ The disciples were terrified and fell face down on the ground. Then Jesus came over and touched them. ‘Get up,’ he said. ‘Don’t be afraid.’ And when they looked up, Moses and Elijah were gone, and they saw only Jesus.”
We notice in verse 8 that after this experience “they saw only Jesus.”
This is the key to our spiritual walk: only Jesus.
Let me explain.
Many believers today would have been so impressed with their “mountain high experience” that they would try to live off that “high” as long as they could.
But so called “spiritual highs” are not what the spiritual life is all about.
Remember at the end of this great experience “they saw only Jesus” and this is what it is all about.
Here is a sample from God’s Word:
“fixing our gaze on Jesus, the Pioneer of our faith and the One on brings it to maturity.”
“Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is.”
“Think about Jesus.”
“For your old sinful self has died, and your new life is kept hidden with Christ in God.”
Our spiritual life is about only Jesus.
To get saved, we need to put our trust in only Jesus , because He died on the cross to pay for all our sins and rose again to give us His Life.
Once we are saved, the essence of our spiritual life is only Jesus.
Galatians 2:20 puts it this way:
“I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.”
There 2 kinds of magnets – steel & soft iron.
The steel magnet does not need a power source, and is relatively weak and can pick up only small items.
But the soft iron magnet is encircled by a coil of copper wire, when a battery or other power source is connected to it, it can be 20 times as strong as the steel magnet.
But if you break the circuit, its power stops.
We are to be soft iron magnets, connected to our only power source for our spiritual lives: Jesus.
We are to stay connected to Him, if we want a constant source of power to live the supernatural Christian life.
Only Jesus!
Blessings!
