Good vs. Evil Part 2: Knowing Good from Evil

The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil: why did God prohibit eating from this tree?

In order to know good from evil, one would have to know evil.

God never intended for us to know evil.

He only ever intended for us to know and experience GOOD.

He simply wanted us to trust Him lovingly to lead us into all that is good.

Obedience is the evidence of a loving relationship.

As long as Adam and Eve rested in faith in God’s love for them, they obeyed God and refrained from eating the forbidden fruit.

They didn’t wrestle with the question, “What would taste good?”  Why?  It was all GOOD!

As they rested in God’s love for them, they allowed the Spirit to establish their thoughts, which led to healthy emotions and healthy choices.

Life was centered on God, not on themselves.

When they made decisions, they were operating at 100% capacity of God’s love and acceptance of them.

Because the fullness of God’s presence was on them, their souls were completely satisfied.

Lust was never an issue for them.

Don’t you wish it had stayed that way?  I do!

Their failure to trust God and His love for them, led to their rebellious choice to eat of the tree’s fruit.

As a result, we are all keenly aware of evil as well as the great enemy: SELF.

Self is insatiable; it always wants something more or new and different.

Lust takes over and brings about sin, which brings about death.

Why is there so much evil and pain in this world?  Man chose to rebel instead of trust in God’s love.

Pain and death are not God’s fault; they’re Man’s fault.

But, here’s the good news: God made a way for us to hit the RESTART button.

God the Father took on human flesh in His Son, Jesus Christ.

On the cross, Jesus took on our sin and paid the penalty for sin once and for all through His shed blood.

Jesus rose again on the third day as proof of His blood’s atoning power.

Now, He makes reconciliation to the Father possible, but ONLY by a person placing his/her faith in His blood to pay for his/her sins.

“It is by grace that we are saved, through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is a gift from God; not as a result of works, that no one can boast.”  Ephesians 2:8,9

Beloved, if you’ve trusted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, He has given you His mind and He expresses Himself in your thoughts through the Holy Spirit.

We can learn to choose to put off self reliance, to put on the mind of Christ, and to allow Him to lead us into all that is GOOD for us.
