Presidents’ Day is an American holiday celebrated each year on the third Monday in February.
It was originally established in 1885 in recognition of our nation’s first president, George Washington.
The Uniform Monday Holiday Act was passed, which moved it away from February 22, President George Washington’s actual day of birth.
Presidents’ Day was seen by many as a way to honor both Washington and Abraham Lincoln, who was born on February 12.
It is a day to honor the lives and achievements of all the presidents of the United States.
While it is good to honor our presidents, as believers, let’s look forward to the day when Jesus will be honored as the King of kings and Lord of lords.
We read this in Revelation 17:14:
“These will wage war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, because He is Lord of lords and King of kings.”
Revelation 19:16 says:
“And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, “KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”
In Daniel 7:13-14 we read:
“I kept looking in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven One like a Son of Man was coming, and He came up to the Ancient of Days and was presented before Him. And to Him was given dominion, glory and a kingdom that all the peoples, nations and men of every language might serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion which will not pass away; and His kingdom is one which will not be destroyed.”
Nations and kingdoms come and go, but one day Christ’s kingdom will come to this earth for 1000 years and will continue in the eternal state on the new earth.
On this Presidents’ Day we honor our former presidents, but let it be a reminder that Jesus is to be honored and worshiped.
The day is coming when He will be honored by all mankind as the Kings of kings and Lord of lords!
Blessings!
