Sometimes, he says names seem to be prophetic.
In 1941, there were two men who were executed in the electric chair in Florida and their names were Will Burn and Will Frizzle.
There was a window washer in Montreal who fell while he was washing windows and died. His name was Will Drop.
Genesis 14:20 says:
“And blessed be God Most High, Who has delivered your enemies into your hand.”
In this blog, we want to look at a name for God, El Elyon.
It is translated here as “God Most High.”
In the Hebrew, repeating the same word indicates the superlative, the best, the highest extent; so it refers to the Lord as the strongest strong One, the highest high One; the most powerful, powerful One.
El Elyon is used in Psalm 91:1:
“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.”
Those who make their home in the shelter of the highest high One; the most powerful, powerful One, are out of reach from not only their enemies, but nasty things that happen to us in this sinful world.
When the enemy attacks and we experience nasty things in this world, we go to El Elyon for safety. It describes our secure, peaceful rest that comes when we are living close and intimate with the Lord.
Those who make their home in the shelter of the highest high One; the most powerful, powerful One, are out of reach from their enemies.
The El Elyon for Israel in the Old Testament times is Jesus today for us in the New Testament times.
Jesus put it this way:
“Then Jesus said, ‘Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.’”
When a cowboy applied for health insurance, the agent routinely asked if he had had any accidents during the previous year.
The cowboy replied, ‘No, but I was bitten by a rattlesnake, and a horse kicked me in the ribs. That laid me up for a while.”
The agent said, “Weren’t those accidents?” “No,” replied the cowboy, “they did it on purpose.”
The cowboy realized that there are no such things as “accidents.”
There are no accidents for us in this sinful world and nothing catches our El Elyon by surprise.
He is the Highest High One, the most Powerful, Powerful One, He is above it all and controls it all, so we can move forward through His name, El Elyon!
