How are your anxiety levels?
How about fear? Are you struggling with that?
Are you frustrated at all in your relationships?
All of these emotions are indicators of a scarcity mindset.
The Apostle Paul tells us that
“the mind set on the flesh (Scarcity) is death; but the mind set on the Spirit (abundance) is life and peace.”
Satan comes to steal, kill and destroy.
Jesus came to give us life….abundantly.
Quite a contrast, isn’t it?
Satan has been using this tactic ever since he interacted with Eve.
Eve, you lack the knowledge of good and evil. You lack the image of God. You need something more to really be like God.
Lies!
The truth was that she was already fully an image bearer of God.
She lacked nothing!
She was lit up with the abundant glory of God.
Satan deceived her into shifting her mindset from truth to the lie.
Adam on the other hand, chose the lie knowing full well the effects it would have on him because they were evident in Eve.
Perhaps, Adam believed that he couldn’t survive without Eve.
He would lack without her, so he chose her over God even though it meant certain death.
Folks, there is nothing romantic about that.
It was just plain stupid and rebellious.
Fast forward, to the cross.
The second Adam, Jesus, paid the penalty for sin once and for all, so that we could have abundant life through Him.
But how do we experience that now?
By faith and by conscious choice to set our minds on all that we have in Him.
Scarcity wants us focused on what we lack.
Abundance reminds us of all that we have in Him.
The choice is ours.
No one can rob us of that choice and no one can make it for us.
We choose to either give thanks in all things or to grumble and complain.
Grumbling and complaining come from scarcity.
Thanksgiving comes from abundance.
Beloved, we have been blessed with every spiritual blessing in Christ Jesus.
He lives in our skin.
We have the mind of Christ.
Jesus is our Husband.
He is our Need-meeter.
When you expect your spouse or someone else to meet your needs, scarcity will scream ‘lack’ to you and you will be frustrated and hurt.
When you are resting in His sufficiency, you will rest and give thanks in all things even in tough relationships.
Use the Emotional Compass:
- Lord, what am I feeling?
- why am I feeling this?
- and what else do You want me to know?
to connect with the Lord and maintain and abundant mindset so that in all things you are able to give thanks.
Blessings!

Hi Robyn,
Thank you! Good article. But I wonder about Adam. Could it be that the story of Adam and Eve is a love story, a type of Christ’s love for the church? The Bible does not say why Adam joined Eve in her fall, but the love he had for her is apparent. We could say the same of Jesus. Why would he join us in our fall? Why would he take on our sin? Could it be, that while Adam and Eve are literal truths, their story is also our story in Christ?
An article on Keep Watch (Got Questions) suggests the possibility!

I think we need not romanticize his choice. His love for God needed to surpass his ‘love’ for Eve and be shown through his obedience. His choice is the first example of what happens when we try to fix what only God can fix. God had to fix Adam’s fix in order to fix it. Adam exemplified the dangers of perceiving lack without Eve. He lacked nothing in God, but he chose to rebel against God and align with Satan instead. We will not know what he truly was thinking or motivated by until we interview him in heaven. It is highly dangerous to romanticize his choice; it demonstrated hatred to God not love for Eve. I think God could have solved this problem very efficiently had Adam demonstrated love for God by being obedient and immediately taken the situation to God.
