Did you ever hear a story of kids who were mad at each other who threatened each other with, “my Dad’s bigger than your Dad, and he’s gonna beat you up?”

Well, in my last nugget video, I spoke about when Jesus walked on water.

While pondering the incident,  I also realized that Jesus was not only showing His divine power to His disciples but also to the elohim (gods).

To the New Testament Jew, Baal was known as the storm god, and he was chief among their Pantheon.

Baal was known as Zeus to the Greeks and Jupiter to the Romans.

There are two recorded accounts where Jesus shows His superiority to Baal.

Mark reports the time when the disciples were crossing the Sea of Galilee with Jesus sleeping in the boat.

A wicked storm kicks up and because they were seasoned fisherman were convinced they were going to die, but Jesus is sound asleep.

Baal was seeking to take out Jesus.

They wake Jesus and accuse Him of not caring about their well-being, but Jesus rebukes them for having little faith.

All Jesus does is say, “Peace be still,” and the sea immediately stops.

The disciples marvel and wonder who He could be that even the wind and seas obey Him.

Jesus served notice to Baal that he was no match for Jesus.

In the account of Jesus walking on water, the disciples again are fearing for their lives in a huge storm, but Jesus is not in the boat to help this time.

As they see something approaching the boat, they assume it’s a ghost, but Peter recognizes that it’s Jesus.

Not only was Jesus showing His power over Baal but, He was also demonstrating to Baal that He was going to empower His disciples to walk in victory over Baal too.

Beloved, there is a spiritual battle going on around us every day.

But, cheer up! Jesus is infinitely more powerful than Satan and the rest of the fallen elohim.

We are safe and secure in Jesus, and neither Satan nor any of the fallen ones can touch us.

Jesus’ victory is our victory!

So, don’t let life’s storm scare you, our Papa has given us His authority to rebuke the evil ones, and nothing shall by any means hurt us.

Blessings!
