How do you approach your Bible reading and church?
Are you looking to get something out of them, and then feel frustrated if you don’t?
Here’s something to consider.
Approach the Lord Jesus first with and attitude of giving yourself to Him.
“Lord Jesus, all the I am, all that I have, I offer to You.”
This is what Paul was talking about when he urged us to offer ourselves as living sacrifices to God.
When we first set our minds on surrendering to Jesus, it puts our hearts in the proper attitude to receive whatever the Holy Spirit deems we need from His Word.
Think about this: if you were in a relationship with someone who only approached you to get something from you, how would you feel?
Used, taken for granted, unappreciated?
Now, let’s say you don’t give them what they want because you know it isn’t best for them, and then they storm off and won’t talk to you.
Well, that’s how we can treat the Lord when we don’t get what we want from Him.
Our relationship with Him becomes user friendly: as long as we get what we want, we hang around; as soon as He doesn’t give us what we want, we get angry and stomp off in a snit.
Beloved, He has already given His life for us; He’s already blessed us with every spiritual blessing in Christ Jesus; He’s already given us His strength.
What more does He have to give to prove His love for us?
Again, whether it’s your devotions or attending a church service, set your heart by giving your all to Him, and then be ready to be amazed at all that He gives you in return from His Word.
He delights in giving us good things.
Coming to Him with a surrendered heart really prepares us to receive His Abundant Life!
Blessings!
