Cross-in-the-clouds

Skeptics have always been critical of Bible believing Christians as pie in the sky in the sweet by and by dreamers who don’t face reality and who are so heavenly minded they are no earthly good.

Even believers may accuse other believers of that, and perhaps some believers justify such a characterization of themselves.

Instead of coming to grips with the harsh realities of life, these believers live in a dream world.

They keep talking about heaven or prophecy as an escape from reality or some folks keep looking for greater experiences of the Holy Spirit.

Despite these criticisms, the truth is that we can’t be too heavenly minded.

In fact, unless we are heavenly minded, we will not be able to be any earthly good!

In Colossians 3:1-4, Paul tells us to keep our head in the clouds:

Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.

Here are 4 reasons we are to be heavenly minded:

1) We died to all that is earthly and sinful. For you have died. Our Old Man died with Christ, so sin working through the flesh, the world, and Satan, no longer has any more claim on us.  Our death with Christ broke their power of over us.

2) We have an entirely new life in Christ And your life is hidden with Christ in God.  Our life now is bound up like a bundle in the resurrected and living Christ. God doesn’t see you and me apart from Jesus, and He doesn’t see Christ apart from us.  That is an amazing thought! We are totally accepted because we are wrapped up in Him.

3) Christ is our life. When Christ, who is our life. Paul is not saying that we are an extension of Christ’s life or that eternal life is some heavenly substance that God gives to us. It is Jesus Christ Himself. Christ is personally Himself, our very life.  He is the very essence of the believer’s life. He is the source and power of our life.

4) We have a great future. When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.  When Christ appears for us at the Rapture, we will be revealed with Him and will be glorified as He is glorified.

We must be heavenly minded if we are going to be any earthly good!

May we keep our heads in the clouds!

Blessings!
