Setting Spiritual Goals for 2016

We are fast approaching the new year, so it’s time to pray about spiritual goals for 2016.

First, take a moment to look back at your spiritual goals from 2015.

How did you do?

Ask the Holy Spirit to show you where you’ve grown in Him.

If you start getting thoughts that recount your failures, catch them, tell the accuser to shut up, and remind him that your sins are paid for in full by the blood of the Lamb.

Next, spend some time simply giving thanks for the way He has worked in your life.

When you are giving thanks, you are showing appreciation, and this engages the side of your brain that connects with the mind of Jesus.

When this part of your brain’s circuits are firing, you are in a place to receive Jesus’ thoughts through the expression of the Holy Spirit.

So, after spending concentrated time expressing your appreciation to God, ask the Holy Spirit to show you what He wants to work on in your walk with Him over the next year.

Write down what you hear from Him.

Share it with a trusted brother or sister in Christ, and ask them to keep you accountable.

Maybe the Spirit will say, “I want you to trust Me more.”

Sounds vague, doesn’t it?

Well, what are some practical ways to grow to trust Him  more?

Memorize verses on trust like Proverbs 3:5,6.

Study accounts in the Bible of when God showed His faithfulness to His people.  There’s plenty of accounts to choose from in both testaments.

Develop an attitude of gratitude in all things including trials which are God’s faith homework lessons.

Trials aren’t fun, but they serve a purpose: to grow your faith and trust in Jesus no matter what your circumstances.

You can become a student of prophecy.

It’s in prophecy that we see God’s sovereign power at work.

Prophecy show us that when God says He’s going to do something, it’s guaranteed to happen.

Jesus told His disciples that in this world, we would face tribulations, BUT cheer up, He has already overcome the world.

So, beloved, we don’t know what 2016 holds for us (I hope it’s the year of the Rapture!).

The good news is that Jesus is in complete control of all things, and He is working them together to accomplish His purposes.

So, ask Him what He wants to work on in you to make you more like Him, and then, let Him work it out in you for His good pleasure.

Blessings!
