Philippians 2:7 “but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.”
The Christmas season always leads me to pause and ponder the miracle of the confinement of the Creator. I cannot understand how or really why the One who spoke all things into existence, Jesus, could or would confine Himself to two cells in the womb of a teenage girl. It truly boggles my mind. Jesus allowed Himself to go through the gestational process of being a zygote, a blastocyst and then eventually a fetus. The Creator of the universe spent 9 months in the womb and then entered this world through the normal birthing process – if you can call being born in a barn normal! What was that womb experience like for Him? Was He aware of where He was for those 9 months?
What was motivating Jesus to confine Himself for this period of time? Love! Love for all of us, His children. He had to come in human form in order to overcome sin for us, so that we could be reconciled to the Father through His flesh. Beloved, never give into the temptation to doubt Jesus’ love for you. He has proven His love by becoming a baby, growing to adulthood, and dying for our sins. His resurrection proved that His love for us has conquered sin and death for those who put their faith in His righteousness instead of their own righteousness. As we move into 2012, I encourage you to resolve to more intimately know the One who became a baby for you.
