Today is Memorial Day.

A day we honor those who made the highest sacrifice so that we can be free.

I honor my uncle, Ken Hoser, who was at Pearl Harbor and who fought throughout the Pacific Theater in World War II.

While he made it home from the battlefield, countless others did not.

So, we salute all of those who defend our freedom and all of those who made the ultimate sacrifice for us to keep it.

John 15:13 says:

“Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.”

These men and women gave their life for us to be free and demonstrated the highest act of love.

We honor them and thank them.

There is another who went even higher in His demonstration of love.

He laid down His life not only for His friends, but also His enemies.

Romans 5:10 states:

“For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.”

Being born into Adam’s family made us sinners.

There is no way for a sinner to stand before the Holy God on his own merits.

Death would be the certain outcome.

But God…

We were made in His image; we are His children.

He did not want us to live apart from Him.

So, He took on human flesh, Emmanuel, God with us.

All to rescue us by offering Himself as the payment for our sin.

2 Corinthians 5:21 says:

“God made Jesus, who knew no sin, to become sin so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”

God Himself became the sacrifice so that we could live.

All that is required of us is to confess our sin and believe that what Jesus did is enough.

I could never be good enough on my own merit.

You could not be good enough on your own merits.

Only God could pay the debt.

Beloved, He loves you so much that He values you at the price of His own life.

How much is God’s life worth?

That’s how much you are worth.

No matter what anyone in this world tells you otherwise, you have infinite value in Christ Jesus.

Your life was bought with the price of His own life.

Your true freedom from sin and death was bought and paid for by God Himself in Jesus.

You are priceless!

The cross is the only evidence that we need to know that He loves us!

Blessings!
