Thoughts on Galatians 2:20 Part 5

“I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me, and delivered Himself up for me.  NAS Galatians 2:20

We live in a ‘what have you done for me lately’ kind of world.  So, it is easy for us to fall into the trap of looking at God’s love through the grid of our circumstances.  When life is going the way we want it to go, then we might believe that God is good and that He loves us.  As soon as we experience some sort of pain, the enemy is right there introducing accusing thoughts in our minds against God’s love and goodness.  “If God loved me, then why did He take my loved one” or “if God love me, then why did He give me cancer” are just two examples of how Satan will use painful circumstances to accuse God to us.  Many unbelievers use the problem of pain as their foundation for their unbelief.  What then should be the foundation for the believer’s faith in God?  Romans 5:8 is the key text.  “For God demonstrated His own love for us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”  The cross is the only evidence that we need to prove that God loves us.  What did Jesus say to Nicodemus? “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.”  God knew that we could do nothing to reconcile ourselves to Him because He is holy, and not only could no man be holy, no man could even be good.  So His great love for mankind motivated Him to rescue us by offering Himself as the sacrifice to pay for our sin.  Wow!  This is true love indeed.  Beloved, when you are tempted to doubt God’s love for you, stop and focus on the cross.  It is the only evidence you need to prove His infinite love for you!
