When you hear ‘Toxic Waste,’ what do you think of?
Nuclear materials, sludge, oil spills…. these words certainly don’t conjure up images of puppies and butterflies!
No one in their right mind would want to live with toxic waste in their home.
Nevertheless, that’s what we do when we hang onto toxic emotions like bitterness, shame, anger, anxiety, fear, rejection, etc.
Instead of flushing them out of our system, we store them up in our subconscious or what the Bible calls our Hidden Chambers.
In Psalm 139, David gives us the best way to clean out the toxic emotions that are poisoning our souls.
First, we need to humbly go to our Great Physician and admit that we need His healing touch.
So, we invite the Holy Spirit to search the attic of our souls to see if there is any hurtful or toxic waste that needs to be given to Him.
Remember, He is the only One who can effectively carry our grief, sorrow, and pain.
We can’t carry any of these for long; sooner or later, they will sink our ship.
Toxic emotions will overflow into our relationships, and in many cases, inflect these relationships making them toxic as well.
So, when negative emotions hit us, we need to ask the Lord to show us where they are coming from and what He wants us to do to flush them out.
He may lead us to forgive someone, to renounce a lie and claim His truth, to seek reconciliation with someone, to emotionally invest in someone again, to give over the hurt and pain, or any number of instructions that lead to cleansing and healing.
Whatever He tells us to do, we need to do it immediately.
He will bring cleansing and healing to us as we give the toxic waste over to Him.
In its place will be His love and joy.
Now, there’s a great exchange!
Blessings!
