Sunday night, I watched my football team, the Philadelphia Eagles, play one of the best games I have ever seen them play.
I have been an Eagles fan since 1963 and have been desperate for a Super bowl win.
I have prayed multiple times for the Lord to grace me with one Super Bowl win in my lifetime.
Their two chances to compete in the Super Bowl resulted in heartbreaking losses.
What will happen in this year’s Super Bowl I do not know, but this team seems to me to be a team of destiny.
Are they destined for greatness? We will see in 2 weeks.
But, one thing I am absolutely sure of is that we, as believers in Christ, are already destined for greatness!
Even though there are many, many riches of Christ that we enjoy right now, some are reserved for us in heaven.
Paul wrote to the believers at Colossae:
“You have this faith and love because of your hope, and what you hope for is stored up for you in heaven. For God wanted them to know that the riches and glory of Christ are for you Gentiles, too. And this is the secret: Christ lives in you. This gives you assurance of sharing His glory” (Colossians 1:5, 27).
We are destined for greatness because some day we will share Christ’s glory when we will receive a resurrection body like His!
In another letter, Paul says:
“But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for Him to return as our Savior. He will take our weak mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like His own, using the same power with which He will bring everything under His control” (Philippians 3:20-21).
Not only are our bodies destined for greatness, but so are our spirits and souls.
To the believers at Thessalonica Paul wrote:
“Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Thessalonians 5:23).
Before Sunday night’s game a sports writer wrote an article titled: Vikings look like a team of destiny as they head to Philadelphia, but he was wrong.
So many people in our world today seem to be destined for greatness, but it is only a delusion.
Only believers in Jesus Christ are destined for true greatness!

Praise God. Because of His greatness and sacrifice I am destined for greatness. What joy we have in knowing we will share in His glory. Thank you Pastor for a message of hope and joy to face these earthly trials in knowing this is not our home but heaven.??
