Why is it so detrimental to our souls’ health to hook into people to meet our needs?

Very simply, because people are not the source of life, only God is.

The reality is that we start out in this life hooking into our parents for life simply because sin separates us from God.

So, we all start out with this sin deficit that triggers the development of our personal flesh patterns – the ways we hook into people for love and acceptance while protecting ourselves from rejection.

But, for those of us who are born again by faith in Christ Jesus, we have been reconnected and hooked into the Source of Life, Jesus.

So, now we can choose to unhook from people, achievements and the things of this world and simply rest and receive God’s love and acceptance knowing that he will never reject us.

I wish there was an internal switch that we could throw that shut off our flesh patterns, but they are learned behaviors that are ingrained in us, and it takes concerted effort to align our self-perception with God’s perception of us.

It takes faith in God’s love to withstand the crushing blow of divorce and the death of a loved one.

Both experiences can leave us with overwhelming feelings of rejection.

Satan will not back off at these hard times.

He will be right there whispering accusations against God’s love and faithfulness.

If we think on his accusations, we are filled with feelings of insecurity, despair and hopelessness.

Then, he slips in the doubts that target our faith, and off we go on a rollercoaster ride of negative emotions.

Beloved, who are you hooking into for life, for love and acceptance?

If it’s a person, you are standing on shifting ground.

If it’s Jesus, you standing on the Solid Rock.

People, even on their best day, can only reinforce love and acceptance.

Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever.

Purpose to rest in His love and acceptance and to unhook from people.

When you do, you will experience His peace and your relationships will become healthy and sweet as you reinforce God’s love in the lives of those around you.

Blessings!
