How much would you pay for a good night’s sleep?

How about $60,000?

That’s the price of a luxurious mattress made by Hastens, a Swedish company.

The mattress is stuffed with horsehair and comes with a brass nameplate featuring the owner’s name as well as the name of the craftsman who made that particular mattress.

We see from the following Scriptures that God wants to give us rest:

“He lets me rest in green meadows; He leads me beside peaceful streams.”

“Let my soul be at rest again, for the Lord has been good to me.”

“Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”

Casting our cares upon the Lord is even more restful than a pricey mattress!

We also read this:

“Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you.”

“Cast your burden upon the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken.”

The question we can ask ourselves is, “how can I rest in the Lord?”

We see this in the Psalms:

“Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.”

Since we are in Christ and He is in us, we are to live in Him.

He is our shelter and when we trust Him to live through us and empower us to face life; we find He gives us rest.

We can relax and enjoy life through Him as we live out of our true identity in Him.

In the midst of painful events in life, the Lord is our best comfort and gives us rest.

We read this in Psalm 94:19:

“When worries threaten to overwhelm me, your comforts cause my soul to delight.”

Comfort here is not just a pat on the head but a trust that the Lord is a “fortress” and a “rock” in which we can “take refuge” and Who brings delight to us.

We this in verse 22:

“But the Lord is my fortress; my God is the mighty rock where I hide.”

The psalmist knows that the Lord is a God who gives us rest because of His unfailing love, as verse 18 says:

“Your unfailing love, O Lord, supported me.”

Do you find it hard to rest?

According to the book Work to Live, if you live in the following nations, a certain number of vacation days are mandated by law:

Spain: 30

France: 30

Ireland: 28

Japan: 25

Belgium: 24

Norway: 21

United Kingdom: 20

Germany: 18

Canada: 10

United States: 0

Now, maybe you’re tempted to conclude you need to  move to Spain, but the reality is that it isn’t the amount of vacation days we have that gives us rest, rather, it is the Lord as we trust Him to be our very life!

Blessings!
