A group of expectant fathers were in a waiting room, while their wives were in the process of delivering babies.

A nurse came in and announced to one man that his wife had just given birth to twins.

“That’s quite a coincidence” he responded, “I play for the Minnesota Twins!”

A few minutes later another nurse came in and announced to another man that he was the father of triplets.

“That’s amazing,” he exclaimed, “I work for the 3M Company.”

At that point, a third man slipped off his chair and lay down on the floor.

Somebody asked him if he was feeling ill.

“No,” he responded, “I happen to work for the 7-up company.”

God is never worried about having too many children!

We have been working our way through Romans 6-8 in my blogs.

This blog deals with Romans 8:16-17:

“The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him.”

In vs. 16, we see that the Holy Spirit affirms our true identity in Christ.

The idea is that the Spirit Himself joins together with our own human spirit, assuring us that we are children of God.

This is in the present tense.

So, the Holy Spirit keeps on assuring us of our true identity as God’s children.

As we listen to the Spirit Himself, using His Word rather than our emotions, we will not doubt the true relationship we have with God.

This leads us to greater intimacy with our heavenly Father (vs. 15) as we saw in my last blog.

In vs. 17, we see that since we are God’s children we are His heirs together with Christ.

What is our inheritance that we have through Christ?

It includes several things:

  1. All the spiritual blessings we have in this life to enjoy (Eph. 1:3).
  2. All we will experience in the Millennial Kingdom on earth, including reigning with Him in our resurrection bodies (Rev. 20:1-4).
  3. All we will experience in the Eternal State, like the New Jerusalem that comes down to the New Earth (Rev. 21-22).
  4. Our eternal rewards for those things done by the Spirit’s power (1 Cor. 3:11-15).

When we think about the inheritance we have in Christ, it is mind-blowing!

We can tend to get bogged down with things in this life, but we must always remember that nothing on earth can ever compare to our rich inheritance we have in Christ!

In this present life we share Christ’s suffering, but in the future, we will share in His inheritance and His glory.

Jack has died.

His lawyer is standing before the family and reads out Jack’s Last Will and Testament. “To my dear wife Esther, I leave the house, 50 acres of land, and 1 million dollars.”

“To my son Barry, I leave my Big Lexus and the Jaguar.”

“To my daughter Suzy, I leave my yacht and $250,000.”

“And to my brother-in-law Jeff, who always insisted that health is better than wealth, I leave my sun lamp.”

Some day we will have true health and wealth, what a wonderful future we have in Christ!

Blessings!
