The Lion Roars Tonight

Have you ever heard a lion roar in person?

I have, and it was terrifying.

I was at a zoo and waiting for some friends outside the big cat exhibit.

There was a large bush between me and the outdoor cage which blocked my view of the male lion that was standing on a rock only 10 feet from me.

He let loose a roar in my direction, and it so stunned me that I froze.

That is exactly what Satan is trying to do to us when he ‘roars’ at us.

Peter described him as a roaring lion on the prowl looking for someone to devour.

His roar, like the lion’s, creates a paralyzing fear that makes us easier to trap.

What does Satan use to roar at us?

So, as believers, how do we counter his attempts to trap us in fear?

First, we have to remember that for us, Satan is a toothless lion.

He’s all roar and no bite.

In other words, he cannot devour us, but this doesn’t mean that he can’t disrupt our lives if we give into his ploys.

Second, we have to become adept at using our armor to counter his roars.

Using our shield of faith, declaring the Word of Truth, and praying at all times are critical to fending off the attacks of the Satan.

If we fail to stand firm in our faith in Jesus, the roars of the lion can trap us in his lies, accusations and temptations.

He knows he can’t take us to hell, but he does want to make us useless to the Lord by trapping us in lies of sin and fear.

A while back, I was struggling with fear over my future, and the Spirit of the Lord whispered in my soul,

“Robyn, behind all fear is unbelief.”

The best way to fend off fear is faith.

The two repel each other.

They cannot coexist.

In fact, faith in God’s love for us picks up fear and throws it out of our lives.

Beloved, stand firm in your faith that you are kept in His love, and nothing, not even Satan, can separate you from the love of God in Christ Jesus.

Then, tell that lion to shut up in Jesus’ name!
