Trick or Treat?

What’s your favorite holiday?

We are coming up on our culture’s second most favorite holiday: Halloween.

Now, I grew up doing the whole trick or treat…give me candy… thing, and didn’t suffer spiritually for it.

So, I’m not here to tell you whether to let your kids go mooch candy from the neighbors.

However, I do want to address some of the issues that many Christians are ignorant of as evil continues to grow in favor in our culture.

More and more TV shows are premised on evil, and the movie industry continues to cater to the horror movie goer.

But, that isn’t really anything new.

In my youth, it was Bewitched and Bedknobs and Broomsticks.

In this generation, it’s the Harry Potter series and the Vampire series.

Should a Christian view horror movies?

To me, it’s a question more of alliance than anything else.

These movies portray evil as good — vampires and wizards are never good.

They use a character like Harry Potter, who is using Magik — spells and curses — to ward off the bad guys.

Harry Potter is consider a ‘white’ wizard; he uses wizardry for good.

Here’s the problem:  There is no good wizardry because, white or black, it’s power source is Satan.

That’s why God condemned sorcery in Deuteronomy 18:10.

Folks, Satan uses movies like Harry Potter to entice kids into experimenting with casting spells and curses.

When they successfully cast a spell, they are hooked.

I recently listened to a man’s testimony who came out of the occult.

He grew up in a Baptist church, but started playing Dungeons and Dragons as a teenager.

Through this game, he learned a money spell.

So, he gave it a try, and to his surprise, it worked!

He was hooked.

Eventually, he connected with a local coven and rose quickly up the ranks to being a Grand Wizard.

Long story short, the Lord Jesus saved him out of there, and now he’s in ministry.

Folks, Satanism is real and growing.

They will be doing very evil things on Halloween.

It certainly is Satan’s favorite holiday.

The Bible says that it’s God’s grace that teaches us to say ‘No’ to ungodliness.

Teach this to your kids as you evaluate what they watch and participate in.

Ghosts, paranormal phenomena, horror movies, and such are all fascinating to our flesh.

Their roots are in the demonic realm, and they are looking to draw us into taking the next step — going to a psychic, playing with a Ouija board, etc. — all in an effort to gain a foothold in our lives to lead us away from God’s light and into Satan’s darkness.

Beloved, what fellowship can we, children of the Light, have with the dark one?

Blessings!
